Our First Incubator Farmers

This is the beginning of the first full year of the Patterson School Incubator Farm, and we’re off to a whirlwind start!

We’ve been joined by our first two Incubator Farmers, using the land and resources to start their farm journey. Josh and Katie are each off to the races with their farm business plans, getting their rows filled up with their first plantings. We’ve gotten a seed starting room set up to use while we finish building our greenhouse, using grant funds provided by Carolina Farm Credit Union, and we’ve finally figured out the best way to set up our irrigation lines on top of a field that runs downhill both ways.

It’s been a busy few weeks, but we’ve already begun to see harvests come out of our Incubator Farmers’ rows as of last Wednesday. Here’s Josh’s wall of lettuce:

270 heads!

We’re showing that farming as a career can happen, with the support of a strong community! We’d love to include you in that, shoot me a message at info@pattersonschoolfoundation.org if you’d like to volunteer, come visit, or learn more about our program!

You can follow the Patterson School Foundation and both of our Incubator Farmers on social media for more progress updates and chances to get involved:

You can find more info about all seven businesses operating at PSF here as well, and all of our upcoming workshops and events!

Thanks, and happy farming!
